Sajad Gani Lone

Sajad Gani Lone is the Jammu and Kashmir People's Conference (JKPC) leader and a former Cabinet minister in the Jammu and Kashmir government. Lone won the Handwara Assembly constituency for the first time in the 2014 Jammu and Kashmir Elections by defeating Chowdry Mohamad Ramzan of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) with a margin of 5,423 votes. He held Animal, Sheep Husbandry, Fisheries and Science and Technology, Social Welfare, ARI, and Training ministries in the successive governments of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and Mehbooba Mufti in Jammu and Kashmir. Sajad Gani Lone is the youngest of the two sons of Abdul Ghani Lone, the Kashmiri separatist, and the former Jammu and Kashmir Cabinet minister. Lone staked a claim in 2018 to form the government in Jammu and Kashmir after the fall of the Mehbooba Mufti-led government. However, the Assembly was dissolved by the Governor. Lone contested as an independent candidate from the Baramulla parliamentary constituency in 2009 and stood third with 65,403 or 6.20% votes. He is again contesting from Handwara apart from Kupwara in the 2024 Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Elections.
