Rahul Gandhi is the former president of the grand old party Congress. Son of Sonia and Rajiv Gandhi, he also serves as the Chairperson of the Indian Youth Congress and the National Students Union of India. A member of Parliament, he represents the constituency of Wayanad, Kerala in Lok Sabha In 2004, Gandhi entered politics and successfully contested the Lok Sabha polls held that year from Amethi. Again, he won from the constituency in 2009 and 2014. He was elected Congress Vice-President in 2013. Earlier he was the General Secretary. In 2014, he led Congress' campaign in the general elections. However, the party suffered its worst electoral result in its history. Congress won only 44 seats compared to 206 seats won previously in the 2009 LS polls. In December 2017, he took over as the president of the Congress. Gandhi is also a Trustee of Rajiv Gandhi Foundation and Rajiv Gandhi Charitable Trust. Gandhi (48) is unmarried. Early life: For much of his childhood and early youth, he stayed away from the public sphere. Because of security concerns, he was homeschooled. He obtained degrees in International Relations and Development Studies at the universities of Rollins and Cambridge.
