Mumbai : MNS chief Raj Thackeray on Friday blamed Maharashtra MPs for not performing at the Centre for betterment of the state in the backdrop of the Maharashtra- Karnataka border row.

"Why is it that every time Maharashtra has to protest for something. What are our MPs doing in Parliament? They do not even come together on the issues which are for betterment of the state," Raj said at a function of the party's railway union here today.

Comparing the state MPs with those in other states, Raj alleged that the Maharashtra MPs are busy with their 'own' progress.

Alleging that the Centre was biased towards Maharashtra, Raj said no one has expectations from Congress to resolve the border issue.

He also lashed out at BJP for having two different opinions about the border dispute. "Eknath Khadse (BJP leader) said border villages are of Maharashtra. But their own Government is in Karnataka. Then why can't they resolve the issue," he said.

On the committee for united Maharashtra, which is active in Karnataka border areas, Raj said the committee itself was divided. How can they fight for a united Maharashtra, he asked.

On the recent affidavit by the Centre in the Supreme Court declaring that the disputed villages would remain with Karnataka, Raj said the original affidavit of the same sort was filed by Shivraj Patil, a senior Congress leader from the state.

"Shivraj Patil had filed the first affidavit from the Centre declaring Maharashtra has no claims over the border villages. However, later it was taken back," he said.

Pointing at uneven distribution of water by the tribunal, Raj said the state is not even getting enough water in proportion to the availability.

Addressing his party activists, Raj asked them to protest against injustice with Marathi youth in railway exams and ensure that the exams would be conducted in Marathi.

"The issue of conducting exams in Marathi should be handled before its too late. Also ensure that the advertisements regarding the exams are carried in the local newspapers," he said. PTI
