Suspected Telangana Rashtra Samithi activists attacked the camp office of former Union Minister and Congress leader Renuka Chowdhary in Khammam, accusing her of being against a separate state of Telengana.

The attackers attempted to set afire the camp office, leaving the windows of the building partially burnt on Tuesday  night, police sources said.

The suspected TRS activists left behind a letter in which they alleged that Chowdhury was anti-Telengana.

Condemning the attack, Congress demanded strict action against the perpetrators.

"It is extremely unfortunate that the former minister's house has been attacked. This is not the way solutions are found in a democratic polity," party spokesperson Manish Tiwari said in New Delhi.

"We strongly condemn it (the attack) and call upon the Andhra Pradesh Government to take strict action against the perpetrators of this crime," he added.

An angry Chowdhury said that TRS activists had left behind a letter threatening, "They will teach me a lesson that I am anti-Telengana. I don't know how that is ... and that I will be killed."

Chowdhury, however, said, "I am not going to be intimidated by the goondas, these anti-social elements. I will continue to live in my house."

In an obvious reference to TRS chief Chandrasekhar Rao, she said, "I have always maintained -- 'Telengana belongs to the people' and not to an individual who is frustrated."

"He has been staying in Khammam for the past three days and there had been no reaction of Khammam people because we have pleaded to our people to keep quiet."

Condemning the attack, the former Union Minister said, "Khammam is a part of Telengana. How dare they do that to Telengana? These people won't be sympathisers of Telengana if this is what they do, trying to destroy property in Telengana and this is the man (Rao) whom we are supposed to trust and belief.

"I hope that the future of Telengana will be in safe hands. This is goondaism and political opportunism at its worst." PTI
