Rahul predicts win in 2014, says, UPA gave rights to food, jobs for poor

Rampur/Aligarh: An unusually combative looking Rahul Gandhi today lashed out at the BJP and Samajwadi Party saying that the UPA in its last nine years of rule has given poor people the right for food, the right for jobs and the right for information. He also added the land acquisition bill among UPA's achievements. Addressing rallies in Aligarh and Rampur, the Gandhi scion said, it's the Congress alone which thinks and works for the poor. "They (read BJP) do not think about the poor nor even meet the poor. I want to tell them, if you want to win elections, you must speak about the poor and meet the poor".In both the political rallies, the Congress vice president asked people whether their laptops are working or not. As people said "No", Rahul Gandhi said, "I told you so. It's the Congress only which fulfils its promises". The Gandhi scion lashed out at BJP saying, it had raised India Shining slogan in 2004, but the common man gave them a stinging rebuke and elected the Congress. "In 2009 too, they said Congress will lose, even the opinion polls said we would lose, but the poor people, the aam aadmi increased our Lok Sabha seats from 145 to 208". "This time too, in the 2014 elections, Congress will win by a greater margin", predicted Rahul Gandhi. "The opposition is asking what the UPA did in the last 8 years. They don't know what's the biggest problem of the poor. It's hunger. We have given the right of food to poor. They will get 35 kg of foodgrains at one rupee per kilo", said Rahul Gandhi. "The work that UPA government did in the last 8 years, was never done earlier. Their (read BJP) leader gives wrong and fake statistics. The growth rate of India was the highest during UPA compared to other governments. We did the maximum for the common man, the poor", said the Gandhi scion. "I can predict, 2014 will see the election of a government of the poor, the aam aadmi. That government will change the face of India. We will give power to the last man standing on the fringe and change India", said Rahul Gandhi. At his Aligarh meeting, the Gandhi scion mentioned how he was told by reporters in Gujarat that it was not the right time to speak out against the 'ordinance'. "I asked them, tell me one thing, was I telling the truth or not? They said, yes, then I asked, how can you have a right time and wrong time for telling the truth", Rahul Gandhi said. Gandhi spoke about the Congress struggle for farmers in Bhatta Parsole and said, "I had then promised we will bring the land acquisition law. The opposition tried to delay it demanding it be sent to the Standing committee, but ultimately we got it passed in Parliament. We won that fight for our farmers". "Here in UP, the government is distributing computers, but these computers don't run. The UP government is a government of computers, but ours (UPA) is a government of rights. We gave the right for food to the poor, right for job to the poor, and right for information to the common man", said Rahul Gandhi. Rahul Gandhi said, it was only the UP government which has opposed the Food Security Bill, and told voters that it was only in UP that the poor won't get foodgrains at one rupee a kilo. "They will be badly thrashed in the elections. All of you, pressurize your government to implement it", he predicted. "SP and BSP can never change Uttar Pradesh. It's the Congress which can change this state", said Rahul Gandhi. "Tell me, am I right or wrong", asked Gandhi, and the audience roared in approval. Referring to Muzaffarnagar riots, Rahul Gandhi said, boths Hindus and Muslims told us, they had no enmity and it was the politicians who encouraged riots. "These political parties instigate riots for their benefit. The common man never wants to fight, he wants to live", said Rahul Gandhi. "I want to tell you, Hindus, Muslims, Christians and others, all want to stay together in harmony. We won't allow them to instigate quarrels among us. We gave you the right to food, but we never said, this is for a particular community, or caste. This right is for all Indians", said the Congress vice president.He said, Uttar Pradesh is being left far behind on the path of progress, because of parties which pit people of religions and castes against one another. "So long as you are not united, this state can never progress", he added.
