Ahmedabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi tonight said the people had now realised that country had geared up to fulfill their hopes and aspirations and “there is hope in the air and there is confidence”.  Modi, who arrived here tonight, was accorded a grand reception by the state BJP unit. He is set to formally inaugurate Pravasi Bharatiya Divas convention tomorrow in Gandhinagar.

“I have seen that the time has come for respect for India in the country and worldwide. The country has begun to talk with its head up and with eye to eye contact,” Modi said, addressing BJP workers at the Sardar Patel Airport.  “Hopes of common man as well as that of world for India have risen. There is hope in the air and there is confidence.  This bridge of hope and confidence is a best opportunity for us,” Modi said.

“I feel that almost all the people have realised that the country has geared up to fulfill the hopes and aspirations of people. According to me, this is the greatest achievement.  This will bring good results in future,” Modi said.  “But we have to be very careful as our responsibilities increase manifold due to rise in hopes and aspirations.”

The Prime Minister also said that Clean India campaign is one such step aimed at fulfilling the aspirations.  “As per one study, poor people have to spend Rs 7,000 per year to fight diseases. Lack of cleanliness will cause diseases. It affects the poor the most. Everybody should treat Clean India campaign as a service to the poor.

“Mahatma Gandhi loved cleanliness. Today, in Pravasi Bharatiya Divas programme, we are celebrating 100 years of his return. 2019 will be 150th birth anniversary of the Mahatma Gandhi. We should gift him the clean India of his dreams by then,” Modi said.
