New Delhi: Hours after Haryana government announced that Bollywood actress Parineeti Chopra will be its brand ambassador for 'Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao', state Health Minister Anil Vij said that he had no idea about the appointment.
"I do not have any information that anybody has been appointed brand ambassador of my department for Beti Bachao programme," Vij said in a twitter post.
Chopra, hailing from Ambala in Haryana, has won several awards, including the Filmfare and National Film Award.
A mega event has also been planned in Gurgaon on July 21 to push the campaign to new heights that is likely to be attended by the actor.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched the campaign from Haryana as the state has the worst sex ratio at 879 females per 1,000 males. The child sex ratio in Haryana is worst among all states in the country.
Out of the 100 worst districts in India for sex ratio, Haryana accounts for 12 districts.
