Raipur: Senior Congress leader Mohsina Kidwai on Monday filed her nomination papers for Rajya Sabha election from Chhattisgarh. Kidwai submitted three sets of nominations on the last day of the process of filing papers for the June 17 biennial election, Returning Officer and Assembly Secretary Devendra Verma told PTI here.
Party leaders Motilal Vora, Ajit Jogi and Ravindra Chaubey, among others, were present on the occasion. Nand Kumar Sai of the ruling BJP filed two more sets of papers on Monday. He had filed the first set on June 2.
The tribal-dominated state has two vacancies in the Upper House of Parliament. With Congress and BJP fielding one nominee each and no other candidate in the fray, both are likely to be elected unopposed. The papers will be scrutinised on Tuesday and June 10 is the last day of withdrawal of nominations.
Kidwai and Sai, whose six-year term is ending this month-end, have been renominated. PTI
