Chennai, Apr 10 : BSP supremo and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati today urged voters of poll-bound Tamil Nadu to give her party a strong mandate in the April 13 Assembly elections so that needs of all sections of society could be addressed.

Addressing an election rally here, she claimed only BSP has catered to the needs of all sections of society, irrespective of caste, religion or other differences.

“The sad fact is these parties have done little for the welfare of SC/ST, religious minorities and other weaker sections since Independence. There is no significant development in the social and economic status of these communities,” she said.

There were no proper poverty-alleviation programmes either, following which some sections of society had joined the Naxal movement or taken to other anti-social activities, she alleged.

She said BSP came to power with people's support and her party workers' efforts and not with the help of industrialists and the rich ‘like some other parties.'On her home state of Uttar Pradesh, she claimed it was free of any communal tension “as such issues are dealt with strongly.” PTI
