Slamming the killing of civilians by Maoists in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on Saturday  said their goals and policies "might be good" but the methods adopted by them are "against human nature."

Expressing concern over the Naxal attack on a Mumbai-bound train in West Bengal yesterday that claimed 98 lives, he said he was shocked to see the picture of a child's body being carried by passengers. "Their goals and policies might be good but the methods they adopt are against human nature", the DMK patriarch said.

"The children and Maoists had no differences. The Maoists approach of killing people to achieve their goals without any concern for human life is not good. The Maoist leaders should ponder over whether their approach is right," he said. He said the party's high level action committee would meet here tomorrow to decide the party's nominees for Rajya Sabha Polls.

Asked if the Pattali Makkal Katchi would join the DMK-led alliance, he said, "I do not know what would be the committee's decision on the issue". On whether he was satisfied with the performance of his son and Deputy Chief Minister M K Stalin, who completed one year in office today, Karunanidhi said, "Yes".

He (Stalin) was acting like a bridge between the government and the opposition, Karunanidhi said. PTI
