Itanagar: An estimated 90 per cent of 10,411 electorates including 5,063 female voters exercised their franchise in the bypoll for Kanubari constituency in Arunachal's Longding district today.
Deputy chief electoral officer D J Bhattacharjee said that around 90 per cent of the electorate exercised their franchise.
Bhattacharjee further said that polling which started at 7 AM in the morning remained peaceful without any incidents of violence reported from any parts of the constituency.
Two candidates including Congress nominee Gabriel D Wangsu and BJP candidate Rongnai Maham are in the fray.
The bye-election to the seat was necessitated following the death of sitting Congress MLA Newlai Tingkhatra who died at a private hospital at Gurgaon on May seven last, nine days ahead of counting of votes for the April 7 assembly and parliamentary elections in the state.
Counting of votes would be held on October 19 next.
