Coimbatore: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi said on Monday the hike in the prices of petroleum products was lesser than what was originally proposed.
Replying to a question by reporters here on AIADMK leader Jayalalithaa's charge that the ruling DMK, a UPA ally, was as much to blame for the price hike, he said the Centre had originally proposed a large increase. However it was lessened due to suggestions from various allies, he said.
Though the increase would impose an additional burden of Rs 150 crore on the state transport department, the government would not increase bus fares. PTI
