Amritsar: The simmering discontent against BJP MP Navjot Singh Sidhu came out in the open on Monday, when several BJP leaders held a press conference to demand that senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley be fielded from Amritsar in place of the ex-cricketer.
Punjab local bodies minister Anil Joshi, state BJP vice-president Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina, state general secretary Tarun Chugh and former minister Baldev Raj Chawla said Sidhu has become unpopular among the voters of Amritsar because of his non-availability and preoccupation with TV reality shows and cricket commentaries.
Navjot Sidhu, on his part, had been complaining that the ruling Akali Dal government had been ignoring his pleas for carrying out development projects in Amritsar. Sidhu had been particularly blaming the Badal family.
