New Delhi Amid allegations of financial irregularities in Commonwealth Games projects, the BJP on Friday said it would demand suspension of Question Hour in both Houses of Parliament on Monday and press for a statement from the Prime Minister on the issue.
"The issue of irregularities in Commonwealth Games has come up in Parliament several times, yet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi are silent. They are neither ready to speak on the issue nor take any action against those responsible," Deputy Leader of BJP in Lok Sabha Gopinath Munde said.
The main Opposition will give notices in both Houses of Parliament on Monday to demand suspension of Question Hour and also a statement from the Prime Minister.
"We want the Prime Minister to clarify what action he will take against those responsible for the financial irregularities. All limits of propriety have been crossed in the Games preparations," Munde said.
Discussions have already been held in both Houses of Parliament earlier this week on discrepancies in the Games preparations. The Opposition had attacked the Games Organising Committee, Sports Ministry and the Delhi Government for exorbitant costs and delay in projects.
BJP and other parties had also demanded the ouster of the head of Organising Committee Chief Suresh Kalmadi. PTI
