New Delhi, Sep 6: Accusing the Congress of playing a "double game", Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati Thursday said the UPA government should extend the monsoon session of parliament if it was serious about passing the promotion quota bill.
"(The) government is playing a double game. They introduced the bill when parliament is being disrupted, so that no one is displeased," Mayawati said.
"If the central government is so serious, they should increase the time of the monsoon session by 10-12 days, so that this bill is passed," she said.
The monsoon session of parliament ends Friday. Both houses of parliament have been witnessing repeated adjournment over BJP's protest over alleged irregularities in coal block allocations which, according to a CAG report, caused a presumptive loss of Rs.1.86 lakh crore ($37 billion) to the exchequer.
The bill to amend the constitution to provide reservation in promotions to Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes employees was introduced in the Rajya Sabha Wednesday.
The bill could not be taken up amid the din created by the BJP protest as well as the Samajwadi Party that is against the bill.
Continuing protests by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over coal block allocations disrupted parliament for the 12th day Thursday, while the SP members too joined in the protests inside both houses against the promotions quota.
