BJP Andhra Pradesh unit chief and former union minister Bandaru Dattatreya ,supporting demand for statehood for Telangana ,was among the 200 odd party workers taken into preventive custody by police when they tried to proceed towards Rajbhavan in Hyderabad on Sunday.
The state unit of BJP which is also in favour of separate statehood for Telangana region had organised "Chalo Rajbhavan" in support of its demand.
The party workers led by Dattatreya took out a rally from Khairtabad to Rajbhavan demanding central leadership of the Congress party to move a bill for Telangana state in parliament and also pass a bill to the effect in the state assembly.
A large number of police personnel deployed at Rajbhavan put up barricades on the roads to prevent the workers from proceeding towards Rajbhavan.
When the rally reached the Rajbhavan chowrasta, the police prevented the workers and took them into custody.
Besides Dattatreya, party's floor leader in the state assembly G Kishan Reddy, national secretary N Indrasena Reddy, Greater Hyderabad city president Chintala Ramachandra Reddy and party spokesman N Ramachandrar Rao were among those arrested. PTI
