New Delhi, March 4: Projecting itself as the only alternative to the Congress, the BJP Sunday called upon party workers to "awaken the country" and "generate a hope for decisive change" in the Lok Sabha elections.

In a political resolution adopted at the party's national council meeting here, opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) charged the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government of indulging in "rampant corruption," and said it was leaving behind an "insecure" and a "suffering India".

The resolution, put forth by the BJP's deputy leader in the Rajya Sabha Ravi Shankar Prasad, was supported by leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj, who said the party would face a litmus test in six state assembly polls before the general elections due in 2014.

"Each passing day once again reinforces the impression that Dr. Manmohan Singh's government is the most corrupt union government since independence. It is not a coalition government but is indeed a coalition of the corrupt," the resolution said.

It also called for expansion of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

"The UPA is leaving a legacy of 'insecure India' and 'suffering India'. India needs to be redeemed by the NDA under the leadership of the BJP. It is time to awaken the country, expand the NDA and generate a hope for decisive change, whenever election is held," the resolution said.

It said people fondly recalled the Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led NDA government which left a legacy of "hope, enthusiasm, tangible growth, participation, good management of price rise and overall feeling of goodwill".

The resolution also said that most NDA-ruled states recorded a growth rate of over 10 percent.

Addressing the youth, it said the BJP would give India its rightful place in the comity of nations with all-round inclusive growth.

"The choice is clear -- to relieve the country of the misery and misrule of the Congress-led UPA, the BJP-led NDA, with its exemplary record of governance, is the only alternative. The national council calls upon all party workers to dedicate themselves fully towards this goal," the resolution read.

Fighting corruption remained the highlight of the resolution which talked about the "series of scams", and in particular the VVIP chopper deal, saying scandals had dented India's image.

Terrorism, beheading of Indian soldiers by the Pakistan army, women's security, unrest in Assam, and the Ram Sethu issue also featured in the resolution.

It also highlighted the third successive victory of the party in Gujarat under the leadership of Narendra Modi.
