Congress Secretary Avinash Pandey has been nominated as one of its six candidates for Rajya Sabha election from Maharashtra. The election for Rajya Sabha is scheduled for June 17. With this, Pandey has got rewarded for his loyalty and sincere efforts in the party's organisational work.
Two years ago, he had unsuccessfully fought the Rajya Sabha elections from Maharashtra against industrialist Rahul Bajaj. At that time, Bajaj, who contested as an independent candidate, was backed by NCP, Shiv Sena and BJP.
Before entering politics Pandey was a student leader. After three decade political career, now he is getting party nomination for Rajya Sabha, which is a big positive turn for him.
In 1985, as a Congress nominee, Pandey defeated sitting MLA Satish Chaturvedi who contested as a rebel on being denied ticket by the Congress. Then, barely 25-year-old, he became the youngest MLA of the time. PTI
