New Delhi, Oct 10: Arvind Kejriwal has now demanded the resignation of Union law minister Salman Khursheed and the arrest of his wife, Louis Khurshid.

The demand comes in the wake of a Hindi news channel telecasting a sting operation that claimed that a trust being run by Salman Khurshid's wife forged signatures of senior govt officials and siphoned off several laks of rupees.

The NGO in question, Zakir Hussain Memorial Trust, is registered at Salman Khurshid's govt residence. Salman Khurshid himself is the chairman of this rust while his wife, Louis Khurshid, is its chief functionary.

The NGO receives money from several ministries and is involved in assisting the physically challenged in UP, including Mrs Khurshid's former constituency and hometown Farrukhabad.

Even the UP govt had ordered an enquiry against this NGO after questions were raised by union ministry of Justice and Empowerment.

Demanding immediate resignation of Salman Khurshid, Mr Kejriwal said, "We demand an urgent FIR. His wife who is the project director should be arrested. Because they are a powerful family, they will destroy evidence and put pressure on witnesses. It is sad that the country's law minister heading an NGO that is involved in corruption. Salman Khurshid should resign immediately.”

Arvind Kejriwal said he along with disabled activists will gherao the residence of Congress chief Sonia Gandhi on Friday demanding resignation of Law Minsiter Salman Khurshid following allegations that the NGO run by him and his wife has indulged in irregularities.

Kejriwal announced his protest programme after a group of 35-40 disabled persons met him at his office here.

Khurshid's wife Louise Khurshid denied the allegations and said it was “devoid of any merit, and is false, malicious and baseless”.

In a statement, she said she herself had requested UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on September 17 to conduct an inquiry so that “truth is revealed and it is established that the Trust has not forged the signatures of any officers of the state of UP”.
