"All options are open in politics. No door is shut in political arena," Singh told reporters here when asked whether he plans to come close to Congress like Samajwadi Party and Ajit Singh's RLD.
"I don't say that I am joining Congress, but I must say that as compared to leaders of other parties, I like the motive and policies (niyat aur niti) of Rahul Gandhi," he said.
Interestingly, Singh also met Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee today. Sources close to him described the meeting as personal and said he often meets him.
About Doomariyaganj assembly by-election result, Singh said SP, led by a "Saifai family" came a poor fourth. SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav belongs to Saifai in Etawah district of Uttar Pradesh.
"When I was expelled, SP leaders had claimed that 98 per cent of party workers were against me. Today's results show that 98 per cent workers failed against the two per cent who are with me," he said.
Singh's Lok Manch had sponsored a Peace Party candidate in the bypoll who came third.
He said the result was an indicator of the 2012 assembly polls due in UP.
Taking a swipe at his political rivals in Congress, he said the Congress' poor showing in the bypoll were not a failure of Rahul Gandhi's programmes.
"It is the failure of the Congress workers led by (AICC General Secretary in charge of UP) Digvijay Singh and local Congress MP Jagdambika Pal who failed to convey the message to the electorate," he said.
BSP won the bypoll which was necessitated following the demise of BSP's Taufeeq Ahmed in January.
To a question, Singh also reiterated that he would not resign from the Rajya Sabha Committee on Health. "After I was expelled, I had asked Mulayam ji as to whether I should quit the committee. He asked to continue," he claimed. PTI
