After Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh, now West Bengal (WB) government has decided to reduce the prices of petrol and diesel. WB Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday said her government will cut down the price of fuel by one rupee per litre.

"For the time being, we have decided to slash one rupee for each litre of petrol and diesel. We also demand that the central government consider cutting down the cess on diesel and petrol prices," news agency PTI quoted Banerjee as saying.

Even when the global crude prices were falling, the BJP-led central government hiked excise duty nine times, alleged the Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo.

Her government had never increased the sales tax or cess during all these years, she said.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu on Monday announced a reduction in petrol and diesel prices by Rs 2 each in the state.

The decision came after the Rajasthan CM Vasundhara Raje announced a four-per cent reduction in value-added tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel on Sunday. The reduction in VAT reduced the fuel price by Rs 2.5 per litre in the state.

It is worth mentioning here that the prices of petrol and diesel are constantly on a rise.
