Gagan Som, brother of BJP candidate from Sardhana Assembly constituency Sangeet Som, was today detained for carrying pistol inside a polling booth in Faridpur.
Spotting the pistol, the security personnel present in the polling booth whisked Gagan Som away from the booth.
EC Officials pointed out that carrying pistol was in contravention of election rules and that’s why action was taken against Gagan Som.
Sangeet Som is the sitting MLA from Sardhana Assembly constituency. He was accused of making fiery speeches during the 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots that left over 60 dead.
Polling for 73 out of 403 UP Assembly constituencies began at 7am today. The constituencies going to election today are mainly located in western Uttar Pradesh.
