New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's wife Sunita has taken voluntary retirement from the Indian Revenue Service (IRS).
Sunita, last posted as Commissioner of I-T in the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) in Delhi, had sought VRS earlier this year.
The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), the cadre controlling authority of the department, on Tuesday issued an official order, allowing her to take VRS.
“Upon considering her notice for voluntary retirement from government service under FR-56 K, the President of India is pleased to allow Sunita Kejriwal IRS (IT-93072) CIT (DR) ITAT, New Delhi to retire from government service with effect from July 15, 2016,” the order reads.
“Sunita Kejriwal’s attention is invited to Rule 10 of Central Civil Services (pension) rules, 1972, that if she wishes to take commercial employment within one year from the date of her retirement, she shall seek government’s prior permission,” it further reads.
Sunita, a 1993-batch IRS officer, has served for nearly 22 years in the Income Tax department.
"She will be able to enjoy her pension benefits as she has served over 20 years in service," a senior official said.
Kejriwal had joined the IRS as an Assistant Commissioner of Income Tax in 1995 after qualifying through the Civil Services Examination. In February 2006, he resigned from his position as Joint Commissioner of Income Tax in New Delhi.
