Shubman Gill is shining as captain in the ongoing England tour, having slammed two centuries in just three innings. On the opening day of the second Test, he smacked his 16th century in international cricket. Here's the stats comparison between Gill and Kohli after 16 tons at international level.
Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli both completed 16 centuries in 138 innings in international cricket. Gill has scored seven hundreds in the longest format while eight of his centuries have come in the ODI format. He has also smacked a ton in T20Is. As for Kohli, he had scored only three centuries in Tests at this stage while the rest of his 13 tons came in ODIs.

After 138 innings at the highest level, Shubman Gill has amassed 5515 runs across formats at an average of 45.2. He has faced 6820 deliveries thus far and has scored runs at a strike rate of 80.86. As far as Kohli is concerned, he scored 5503 runs after 138 innings across formats at an average of 45.47. He faced 7091 deliveries and mustered runs at a strike rate of 77.6.

Modern-day cricket has witnessed players hitting a lot of sixes and Shubman Gill is not behind either. In 138 innings, the Indian Test captain has smacked 113 sixes to go with 615 fours. At the same time, Virat Kohli had hit 556 fours and only 35 sixes after 138 innings. Kohli emphasised more on finding gaps in the early stages of his career, contrary to what the modern-day players do.

Shubman Gill has so far played 34 Tests, 55 ODIs and 21 T20Is in his career after making his international debut back in 2019. The emphasis was more on ODIs when Virat Kohli made his international debut. 95 out of the first 138 innings in his career came in ODIs while he had only played 14 Tests and 20 T20Is by then.
