Ramandeep Singh was one of the surprising retentions by KKR in IPL 2025. He was retained for Rs 4 crore but his role was never defined throughout the season. He scored only 47 runs in seven innings at an average of 9.4 and didn't bowl a single delivery in 11 matches for KKR. He might get released by the franchise ahead of the next season.

Lucknow Super Giants retained fast bowler Mohsin Khan for Rs 4 crore ahead of the mega auction. The left-arm fast bowler is a wicket-taker but he got injured before the tournament and never got fit. He was ruled out before the start of the season and the franchise might release to look for a fitter fast bowler instead.

LSG retained Mayank Yadav for Rs 11 crore after his brilliant exploits with a pace of above 150 kph last season. But injuries continued to haunt him, and he ended up playing only two matches. In two games, Mayank conceded 100 runs in eight overs and picked up only two wickets at an average of 50 and an economy of 12.5.

Dhruv Jurel was the most surprising retention by the Rajasthan Royals ahead of IPL 2025. He was retained for a whopping amount of Rs 14 crore. The amount seemed a lot more for Jurel and even though he fared decently with the bat. He scored 333 runs in 13 innings at a strike rate of 156.33 but failed to finish a few matches for his team in the death overs. The Royals might release him and get him back at the auction for a lesser price.

Shimron Hetmyer was another retention from the Royals that went wrong. He was retained by the franchise for Rs 11 crore and in return, the southpaw scored only 239 runs in 13 innings at a strike rate of 145.73. It was a poor show from Hetmyer in IPL 2025 and he might get released ahead of the IPL 2026 auction.
