2019 World Cup, Match 24: Captain Morgan shines in England's dominant win over Afghanistan

England captain Eoin Morgan smashed a world record 17 sixes in his blistering 71-ball-148 as the hosts crushed Afghanistan by 150 runs in a World Cup encounter.

The Afghans were never in the contest and managed only 247 for 8 with Adil Rashid picking up 3 for 66 and the talented Jofra Archer taking 3 for 52.

Morgan broke the record which was jointly held by Rohit Sharma (vs Australia 2013), AB de Villiers (16 vs West Indies, 2015) and Chris Gayle (16 vs Zimbabwe 2015).

Even Moeen Ali had a little feast towards the end of the innings, scoring 31 off 15 balls with four sixes.

Hashmatullah Shahidi top-scored for the bottom-placed team with a gritty 76 off 100 balls with the help of five fours and two sixes as Asghar Afghan, who was dropped by Jonny Bairstow on 28, made 44 off 48 balls.
