New Delhi Railway Station stampede: At least 18 people were killed in a fatal stampede that took place at the New Delhi Railway Station after the sudden rise of the Mahakumbh rush on Saturday night. The stampede was caused by a swell in the crowd of passengers waiting to board trains to Prayagraj.

Northern Railway's Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Himanshu Upadhyay said that passengers pushed each other, which caused injuries to some of them.

The officer said Swatantra Senani Express and Bhubaneshwar Rajdhani Express were delayed and the passengers of these trains were also present on platform numbers 12, 13 and 14.

As per the report, every hour 1,500 general tickets were sold by railways due to which the station got overcrowded and became uncontrollable.
