A large number of devotees arrived at Sangam on the first day of Mahakumbh Mela in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj. The entry route to the Sangam Mela area has been made through Jawaharlal Nehru Marg (Black Road), while the exit route is via Triveni Marg. During the major bathing festivals, the Akshayavat Darshan will remain closed for visitors.

Uttar Pradesh government said around 60 lakh pilgrims had taken a dip in the Sangam till 9.30 am on the first day of the Mela. More than 40 crore people are expected over 45 days in the mela, being held after 12 years.

A sprawling tent city has been established near the sacred Sangam to cater to the millions of pilgrims flocking to the event. Mahakumbh Nagar is the world’s largest temporary city, accommodating 50 lakh to 1 crore devotees at any given time. Huge gates have also been installed at some of the entry points to welcome the devotees into the holy city.
