After India's partition in 1947, the passenger train services were significantly reduced in this railway station. And after Bangladesh's independence in 1971, this railway station became a key freight station for international trade.

It should be noted that in 2011, an amendment broadened its functions to include transit trains to and from Nepal. It is interesting to note that India has the fourth-largest rail network in the world and more than 13,000 trains run in the country every day, of which more than 2.5 crore passengers travel. These trains pass through more than seven thousand railway stations and cover a distance of more than 68 thousand kilometres.

Some of the goods trains run from Singhabad railway station to Bangladesh and now the tracks are devoid of occasional passenger trains.

It is interesting to note that the colonial-era structures and equipment of the Singhabad railway station still stand intact, though mostly out of use, such as the signal system, ticket counters, and other facilities.
