US says it's Working hard to push Pakistan to go after terror group

The United States has said that it is working hard to push Pakistan to go after terror groups that seek safe haven on its soil and territory.

“We’re always working hard to push Pakistan to go after those terrorist groups that seek safe haven on their soil and territory,” State Department spokesperson Mark Toner told media persons today.

Toner, however, also added that another goal of the US is to push for more talks between Pakistan and India, which will help reduce tension in the region.

“And we’re pushing for more dialogue between Pakistan and India, which we believe will help reduce tension in the region,” he added.

The State Department spokesperson lauded India’s support to the Afghanistan government and added that the US aims to continue to support the Afghan military as it steps up its fight against the Taliban.

“But whenever you look at any situation like you have, any conflict like you have, in Afghanistan, certainly there’s a range of different regional dynamics that play into it. And then ultimately, as we’ve said, we do support an Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process,” Mark Toner added.

He also said that the US supports the Afghan government in its efforts to push much-needed reforms in the economy and the democratic system.
