Sri Lankan don with fake Aadhaar card dies in Tamil Nadu; CBCID to probe

Police in Tamil Nadu has confirmed that Sri Lankan don Angoda Lokka, who had managed to remain in hiding in India for past two years under fake identity has died in mysterious circumstances. Crime Branch-Crime Investigation Department (CBCID) will now probe the gangster's death that took place in early July.

Tamil Nadu Director General of Police J.K. Tripathy transferred the case from Coimbatore police to the CBCID. Two men and a woman has been arrested. According to a CBCID official, two first information reports (FIRs) have already been registered -- one in the suspicious death and the other for submitting false documents to get Aadhaar card.

Police said Lokka had entered Tamil Nadu in 2017 and has been living in Coimbatore since 2018 under the name Pradeep Singh and was supplying protein supplements to gyms there.

With the help of a Madurai-based advocate T.Sivakami Sundari and her Tiruppur friend S.Dhiyaneswaran, the Sri Lankan don had taken an apartment on rent in Coimbatore.

He was living with a Sri Lankan woman, Amani Dhanji, whose husband Lokka had allegedly killed earlier in the island nation, the police said. Earlier Sundari had given refuge to Lokka at her residence in Madurai for some months.

Lokka died in early July under suspicious circumstances. Sundari went to Coimbatore the day after his death at the request of Dhanji and told the city police that the gangster was her cousin and had died of cardiac arrest.

After the post mortem Sundari took Lokka's body to Madurai and cremated it there.

The police have so far arrested Sundari, Dhanji and Dhiyaneswaran.
