Kolkata, Feb 19: Reserve Bank of India employees all over the country would participate in the two-day strike called by the trade unions from tomorrow, the workers' unions said today.
A statement issued by All India Reserve Bank Employees Association and All India Reserve Bank Workers Federation in Kolkata said that its employees would support the strike and the Central Bank would remain closed.
‘Mamata's threat illegal'Terming the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's threats to foil the two-day strike call as “illegal”, the labour arm of CPI(M) — CITU on Tuesday threatened to file a case against Chief Secretary Sanjoy Mitra if the State government forcefully tries to stop workers from participating in the ‘bandh'.
“The State government is becoming more shameless with every passing day. What Mamata Banerjee is doing forcefully to foil the strike is illegal. This force and threats are totally illegal. No Chief Minister or State government has the right to take away the right of the workers to participate in strike,” CITU State president Shyamal Chakraborty said.
Strike to cripple normal life Thiruvananthapuram: The two-day strike is likely to cripple normal life across Kerala with workers from varied sectors including transport and banking joining the protest against the Centre's economic and labour policies.
The State government has declared ‘dies non' (no work, no pay) as pro-Left service and teachers unions are also joining the strike.
Emergency services like medical services, milk supply and media have been exempted from the purview of the strike, AITUC leader Kanam Rajendran said.
The unions have put forward a charter of 10 demands such as urgent steps to control price rise, strict enforcement of labour laws in all places of work, social security net for workers in the unorganised sector, end to disinvestment in PSUs and raising minimum wage to Rs. 10,000 a month.
Apart from unions owing allegiance to the Left, the pro-Congress INTUC and pro-BJP BMS are also participating in the strike.
