Rahul Gandhi ED grilling: Congress protests across country, agitation turns violent in Hyderabad

Rahul Gandhi ED grilling: Congress workers on Thursday held protests in several parts of the country including Karnataka, Kerala, Punjab, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, and Rajasthan over the Enforcement Directorate investigating former party president Rahul Gandhi in the National Herald case.

Telangana

A two-wheeler was set on fire and some protesters were seen climbing on a state-run city bus even as window panes of the bus were smashed allegedly by an agitator in Hyderabad. The protest caused huge traffic jam on Khairtabad Circle and surrounding areas. The demonstrators raised slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the police. Mild tension prevailed as Police foiled the attempts by the protesters to lay seige to the Raj Bhavan, as part of a "Chalo Raj Bhavan" call given by Congress' Telangana unit.

Uttar Pradesh 

Congress workers in Lucknow demonstrate over the ED probe against party leader Rahul Gandhi in the National Herald case. 

Kerala 

Police used water cannons & tear gas to disperse Congress workers protesting in Thiruvananthapuram over the ED probe against party leader Rahul Gandhi in the National Herald case.

Karnataka 

Congress workers held a protest march in Bengaluru on Thursday over the questioning of Rahul Gandhi by ED. Karnataka Congress chief DK Shivakumar, CLP leader Siddaramaiah and other leaders and workers of the party were detained by police during their protest in Bengaluru.

Punjab 

Police used water cannon to disperse a group of Congress leaders and workers as they tried to take out a protest march to the Raj Bhavan to denounce the "undemocratic ways" in which the party's leaders are being "targeted" by the Centre.

Goa 

Goa Congress chief Amit Patkar and a number of other party leaders were detained by police on Thursday while they were marching towards the Raj Bhavan to protest against the questioning of Rahul Gandhi. 

Delhi 

Congress workers held a protest in the Civil Lines area with a march to Lieutenant Governor's house, led by state president Anil Kumar. Congress workers carried out a march from Sushrut Trauma Centre near Chandgiram Akhara to the LG’s house decrying the Delhi Police for “entering the Congress headquarters” and “thrashing” the party leaders inside.
