In a massive success, the Special Cell of the Delhi Police has arrested three terror suspects, who were associated with Pakistani spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), said officials on Sunday. The suspects, who are residents of north India, were linked with ISI associated terrorist Shehzad Bhatti.
The suspects have been identified as Hargunpreet Singh from Punjab, Vikas Prajapati from Madhya Pradesh's Datia, and Arif from Uttar Pradesh's Bijnor.
"Special Cell of Delhi Police busted a module being led by a Pakistani national, Shahzad Bhatti, a gangster who is currently working at the behest of the Intelligence Agency of Pakistan. Three people have been arrested," Pramod Kumar Kushwaha, Additional CP (Special Cell), said at a press conference.
"They recently threw a hand grenade in front of the Gurdaspur City Police Station on the 25th. He (Shahzad Bhatti) executed the attack, and these same boys were involved in the incident and have been arrested. Apart from this, there were many other places on their target where this group had done videography, recce and they had to throw hand grenades," he added.
This is the second time in two months when the Delhi Police has busted a Pakistan-based terror module. In September, the Special Cell of Delhi Police and central agencies conducted multiple raids across several states and busted a terror module that was planning to conduct a major attack in the country.
According to the Delhi Police, the mastermind was identified as Ashar Danish, who was nabbed from Jharkhand's Ranchi. Two suspects, Aftab and Sufiyan, who were residents of Mumbai, were arrested from the national capital. Another suspect, Muzapa, was arrested from Telangana.
Since the November 10 blast near Red Fort in Delhi that claimed 15 lives and left dozens injured, security forced have tightened the security across the country and has been conducting raids in various parts. On Saturday, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) said it has arrested an imam and one of his associates from Uttarakhand's Haldwani.
Mohammad Asif, the accused who is the imam of the Bilali mosque, and Nazar Kamal, his associate who is an electrician by profession, were arrested by the central probe agency on Friday night in connection with the Delhi blast. Meanwhile, the four accused of the Delhi blast who were nabbed earlier - Muzammil Ganaie, Adeel Rather, Shaheena Saeed and Maulvi Irfan Ahmed Wagay - were sent to 10-day judicial custody on Saturday.
