Kerala: 1 bogie of Alappuzha-Kannur Executive Express catches fire, police suspect role of 'outsider'

In one of the CCTV cameras installed in Bharat Petroleum Institute near the station, a suspicious incident has been captured a few minutes before the incident of arson where a person was seen moving towards that compartment of the train.

A fire broke out in a bogie of the Alappuzha Executive train on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday when the train was standing at the Kannur railway station. The train was stopped as soon as the fire was reported. The bogie that caught fire was separated from the rest of the bogies of the train. Three fire tenders had reached the spot to extinguish the fire. No casualty in this incident was reported.

CCTV footage related to this incident has been received by the Railway Police. In one of the CCTV cameras installed in Bharat Petroleum Institute near the station, a suspicious incident has been captured a few minutes before the incident of arson where a person was seen moving towards that compartment of the train.

On the basis of this CCTV footage, police are suspecting that some outsider may be involved in this incident. Railway Police has registered a case and started investigation.

Even before this, on April 2, there was an incident of arson in the same train in Kozhikode district, in which Shahrukh Saifi, a resident of Delhi's Shaheen Bagh, set fire to the D1 bogie of the train, in that incident 3 people were killed while 9 people were burnt.
