New Delhi: Former Director General of Military Operations retd Lt Gen A K Choudhary has revealed that officials in the highest levels of government were indeed "spooked" becaue of normal army movement on the night of January 9, 2012.


In an interview to The Indian Express, Retd Lt Gen Choudhary, presently in retirement in Patna, said, the then Defence Secretary Shashikant Sharma called him up in the middle of night to ask him to stop two columns of the Army from approaching Delhi on January 9, 2012 night.

Army Chief retired Gen V K Singh  today said that the Indian Express report was deliberate and he knew the bureaucrat who was behind this baseless report.

National Security Adviser Shiv Shankar Menon refused to be drawn into the controversy and asked reporters to get in touch with concerned authorities for clarification.

Menon said, at no point of time was there any distrust between the highest levels of government and the Army.

The Indian Express today published an interview with Lt Gen A K Choudhary, former DGMO, in which he claimed that he was called in the middle of the night by the then Defence Secretary Shashikant Sharma, now Comptroller and Auditor General,  to stop two army units from moving towards the capital.

The retd Lt Gen, now in Patna after his retirement, told The Indian Express, that the Defence Secretary called him up on behalf of the highest levels of government to stop the troop movement.
