New Delhi, Nov 13: The city police has opposed before the Delhi High Court the parole plea of ramp model Jessica Lall's killer Manu Sharma, serving life term in Tihar Jail.
Sharma had moved the court earlier for parole to attend the marriage of his younger brother Kartik Sharma on November 21. Justice V K Shalli is to take up Sharma's plea for hearing tomorrow.
The police has objected to his parole plea on the ground that he had in the past violated the conditions on which he was given the parole.
In an affidavit filed through Standing Counsel Pawan Sharma, the city police cited Sharma's conduct when he was found visiting discotheques in violation of the parole conditions.
The police said in its affidavit that the state government too has rejected his plea on October 21 due to his past conduct when he was released on parole. In 2009, the state government had released Sharma on parole to allow him to visit his ailing mother and participate in the last rites of his grandmother but instead of attending to his ailing mother, he was found visiting discotheques. Sharma's counsel had earlier argued that according to the guidelines for granting parole, the conduct of only past one year has to be considered.
According to police, going by his past conduct, no relief should be granted to the convict as he left Chandigarh and came to Delhi when the government had released him on condition that he would remain in Chandigarh. Following a public uproar over his conduct, Sharma later surrendered before Tihar Jail authorities before the expiry of his parole period.
Sharma had shot dead ramp model Jessica Lall for refusing to give him a drink on the intervening night of April 29-30.
