Delhi: Massive fire at Amar Colony in Lajpat Nagar area, 10 fire engines on spot

A fire department official said that the blaze was reported in a few shops at the Lajpat Nagar market area. No injuries or casualties were reported from the incident.

A massive fire broke out at the Amar Colony of Lajpat Nagar area in Delhi on Tuesday afternoon. A total of ten fire tenders were rushed to the site to douse the flames. No injuries or casualties were reported from the incident.

It was believed that the blaze ignited at one of the shops and spread to the other floors. Speaking about the incident, Delhi Fire Service Director Atul Garg said, "The fire started from a shop on the ground floor and spread to other stores and a restaurant. The fire also spread to the residence and an office on the first floor of the building."

Another official informed that the fire department had received a call at around 2.40 p.m. informing about a rapidly spreading fire incident at C15, Amar Colony, Main Market. Following the call as many as four fire tenders were immediately pressed into service. The Amar Colony market is one of the most crowded shopping centers for clothes and furniture among other things in Delhi.

Earlier today, two people lost their lives after a fire at a garbage mound in Gurugram's Manesar gutted several adjoining shanties. The fire broke out in the garbage mound at a scrap yard spread over 25 acres on Monday night. The blaze spread to the shanties due to a storm.

Meanwhile, a major fire broke out at a paper-manufacturing factory in Noida. Over a dozen fire tenders were rushed to the factory located in the Badalpur area and the blaze was confined to one portion of the building. There were no immediate reports of injuries to any person in the fire.
