    Couple, 4 others held for selling Indore girl to Gujarat man for Rs 1.80 lakh

    A couple and four others were arrested on Friday for allegedly selling off a 17-year-old girl from Indore to a man in Gujarat for Rs 1.80 lakh, a police official said. A woman sold the teen girl to the man after luring her with the promise of getting her married, Deputy Commissioner of Police Rishikesh Meena told reporters.

    "The girl told us the man kept her in a godown in that state for two days and raped her. She managed to escape and return to Indore. One her complaint, a case was registered on Thursday under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act," Meena said.

    Uddhav accuses Sattar of land grab, slams BJP for campaigning for him

    Is it the BJP's culture to campaign for leaders like Abdul Sattar who made objectionable remarks against NCP(SP) MP Surpiya Sule, Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray said in a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday. The PM had campaigned here on Thursday. Sillod is part of the district. State minister Sattar is the sitting MLA from the seat.

    "I want to ask the PM if this if the culture of BJP to campaign for such persons. Sattar used objectionable remarks against Sule on camera. The BJP also campaigned for Prajwal Revanna in Karnataka," Thackeray said while seeking votes for his party candidate Suresh Bankar, who is up against Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena's Sattar.

    The chief minister made the remarks while addressing rallies in Katehari of Ambedkarnagar and Mirzapur's Majhawan assembly constituencies, seeking support for candidates Dharmaraj Nishad and Suchismita Maurya, respectively. Bypolls to nine assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh are scheduled for November 20.

    Youth sentenced to 20-years-imprisonment for sexually assaulting minor

    A court here sentenced a youth to 20 years of imprisonment for sexually assaulting a five-year-old girl in 2021, police said Friday. The court of Additional Sessions Judge Hemraj Mittal also imposed a fine of Rs 70,000, they said.
    Public prosecutor advocate Ravinder Gupta said that on the basis of strong evidence and witnesses, the court had convicted the accused Kapil, a resident of Ballabgarh on Wednesday.

    Punjab Police busts narco smuggling and arms cartel; 2 held with over 8 kg heroin

    The Amritsar police have busted trans-border narco smuggling and arms cartel with the arrest of two persons. Police have seized over 8 kg heroin, 6 kg opium, 13.1 kg chemical and four pistols along with 17 cartridges from their possession, said Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav on Friday.

    Those arrested have been identified as Aditya Pratap alias Kaka (23), a resident of Bhalla Colony in Chheharta, Amritsar and Shambhu Kabir (35), a resident of Prem Nagar, Tarn Taran Road in Amritsar, he said.

    Remembering tribal icon Birsa Munda on his birth anniversary, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said his life full of sacrifices was an unparalleled example of service to the nation.
    Munda, born in 1875 in present-day Jharkhand, led a tribal uprising against the British. He died at the age of 25 while in custody. "Bhagwan Birsa Munda Ji sacrificed everything to protect the pride and dignity of the motherland. I pay my heartfelt tribute to him on the auspicious occasion of his birth anniversary - Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas," PM Modi posted on X. Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar paid floral tributes to the tribal warrior at his statues at the Raj Bhavan, Birsa Chowk and the Kokar Memorial here. In a statement, the governor said the day reflected the unparalleled contribution of the tribal community and their bravery. Chief Minister Hemant Soren said the day was special for Jharkhand as it was the birth anniversary of the tribal legend and also the foundation day of the state.
