    A new-look Rajpath to host Republic Day celebrations

    Spectators arriving at the Rajpath here to witness the Republic Day celebrations on January 26 (Wednesday) are all set to find the boulevard in a "new-look" as the work on the government's ambitious Central Vista Project is underway at a rapid pace.

    The work on the re-development of Rajpath was going on under the Central Vista Project due to which this year, the ceremonial boulevard will look more beautiful than before. New footpaths on the Rajpath have replaced the red sand path following which 94,600 meters of walkable roads have been created.

    EOW raids MP PWD employee to probe graft allegations

     The Economic Offence Wing (EOW) of Madhya Pradesh police on Sunday raided the premises of a state government employee in an alleged disproportionate assets case.

    As per officials in MP police, the raid was conducted in the premises of a state government employee associated with the Public Works Department (PWD) in Rewa district to unearth disproportionate assets worth Rs 1.5 crore. More assets are likely to be found as the raid and the estimated process was still underway, till 5 p.m. on Sunday, said a senior police official in EOW.

    Man injures wife with surgical blade in Delhi, later kills self

    A man grievously injured his 22-year-old wife with a surgical blade in the national capital and later killed himself in a deserted house in Uttar Pradesh, an official said here on Sunday.

    According to the official, an information was received on January 20 at Khyala police station from Sri Balaji Hospital, Paschim Vihar in West Delhi that one Mansi Bajaj, a resident of Raghubir Nagar is admitted after she was assaulted by her husband.

    It was found that injured Mansi Bajaj and her accused husband identified as 32-year-old Ramkumar were having some differences due to which Mansi came to her mother's house on January 15.

    Over 27K security personnel deployed in Delhi ahead of R-Day

    Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana on Sunday said that over 27,000 personnel have been deployed in the national capital in view of the Republic Day. 

    "A total force of 27,723 personnel are deployed in Delhi," the Delhi Police chief said in a press conference. He further said that the total force includes 71 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs), 213 ACPs, 713 Inspectors, Delhi Police Commandos, Armed Battalion officers and Jawans and 65 companies of the Central Armed Police Force.

    Notably, Delhi is currently under a heavy security cover after the intelligence agencies received inputs of a possible terror attack in the city in wake of the Republic day.

    Farmers fined for catching wild boars in UP village

    The forest department has imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on three farmers for catching wild boars in Sherpur village of the district, officials said on Sunday.
    The farmers were fined on Saturday for illegally catching wild boars from fields, forest ranger Kuldeep Singh said. Bharatiya Kisan Union leader Mangeram Tyagi protested against the fine and reasoned it was necessary in view of the damage the wild boars cause to their crops. He asked the forest department to stop “harassment” of farmers.

    Tardeo high-rise fire: Mumbai police registers six accidental death reports

    Mumbai police have registered six accidental death reports (ADRs) in connection with the fire that broke out in a residential building in Tardeo area of central Mumbai, which claimed six lives and left 23 others injured, an official said on Sunday. The blaze had erupted on Saturday around 7.30 am at Sachinam Heights, a ground-plus-20-story building located opposite Bhatia Hospital at Gowalia Tank. "As the fire claimed the lives of six persons, separate accidental death reports were registered at the Gamdevi police station on Saturday night," the police official said.

    NDRF Twitter handle hacked

    he official Twitter handle of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) suffered a possible hacking attempt late Saturday, officials said. A senior officer of the force said on Sunday that technical experts are looking into the issue and the handle will be restored soon. The handle '@NDRFHQ' briefly posted some random messages and the already published messages were not loading. However, the official display photo and bio of the federal force was visible.

    Bal Thackeray will be remembered forever: PM Modi

    Paying tributes to Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray on his 96th birth anniversary, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday that he will be remembered forever as an outstanding leader who always stood with the people. A hardline Hindutva leader, Thackeray was born in 1926 and founded the Shiv Sena, which was a BJP ally for a long time before it severed ties in 2019.     Gurugram: 4 of family injured as cylinder blast triggers fire in house

    Four members of a family sustained serious burn injuries after their house caught fire following a cylinder blast here, police said on Saturday. The incident took place on Friday night in Sheetla Colony here, they said. According to police, the injured include 40-year-old Sanju, a street vendor from Uttar Pradesh, his wife Laxmi (36), daughter Nikita (19), and son Nitin (12). The injured sustained around 60-70 per cent burn injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital from where they were referred to the Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi, a police officer said, adding their condition remains critical. The incident occurred when Laxmi was preparing food in the kitchen of the rented accommodation, they said.

    Husband, wife held in Kolkata for raping, blackmailing woman in Mumbai

    A couple was arrested from a hotel here on Saturday for allegedly being involved in raping a woman in Mumbai and squeezing over Rs one crore from her through blackmail, police said. On a complaint by the woman in Maharashtra, a joint team of police personnel from the two cities raided the hotel in New Market area of the eastern metropolis and apprehended a man and his wife, a senior officer said. "The couple fled Mumbai after the woman complained with Nagpara Police Station in Maharashtra, alleging that the man raped her while his wife videographed it. The incident first happened in 2015 and since then, they threatened her to leak the video," he explained. She also accused the couple of blackmailing her and squeezing Rs one crore, the officer said.
    The man and his wife will be taken to Mumbai on transit remand, he added.
