    Assam flood: 8 more dead, 21.52 lakh affected

    Eight more persons lost their lives in the devastating flood in Assam on Monday, while over 21 lakh people continued to remain in distress under the impact of the deluge, officials said. The death toll due to the flood this year mounted to 134 with eight deaths reported during the day, which include five from Cachar district and one each from Kamrup Metro, Morigaon and Nagaon, they said. 

    One person was also reported missing in Cachar district, according to a bulletin of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).

    Gas leak in Jordan kills 5, injures over 200

    A poisonous gas leak in Jordan's southern port city of Aqaba on Monday killed at least five people and injured 234, state-run Jordan TV reported. The Public Security Directorate said a gas tank sprung a leak while being transported. It did not identify the contents of the tanker.

    'One Health' pilot project for livestock to be launched in Bengaluru on Tuesday

    A pilot 'One Health' project will be launched in Bengaluru on Tuesday to help the Centre to come out with a national roadmap to prevent the outbreak of future zoonotic diseases in the livestock sector. Animal Husbandry and Dairying Secretary Atul Chaturvedi will launch the pilot project in Karnataka in the presence of other dignitaries and stakeholders from the Centre and state levels across livestock, wildlife and the environment, an official statement said.
