    Work underway on cattle fencing along 622-km stretch between Mumbai, Ahmedabad

    The Railways has begun constructing metal beam fencing along the 622-kilometre stretch between Mumbai and Ahmedabad to protect against cattle run-overs. The fencing along the Mumbai-Ahmedabad route will cost approximately Rs 245.26 crore.

    Maha: Man, two sons commit suicide in Nashik; cops probe money-lender's role

     A 52-year-old man and his two sons allegedly committed suicide in Maharashtra's Nashik city on Sunday, a police official said. Deepak Shirode, his sons Prasad (26) and Rakesh (23) were found hanging in three separate rooms of their home in Radhakrishna Nagar in the city's Satpur suburb in the afternoon, he said.

    2 killed in Ladakh avalanche

     A woman and a teenage girl were killed Sunday after they came under an avalanche in the Kargil district of Ladakh, a police official said. Kulsum Bi (14) and Bilquis Bano (25) were walking on the road near their Tangole village on Kargil-Zanaskar highway when they were hit by the avalanche around 2.

    Pages from Ramcharitmanas burned in Vrindavan

    A group called Akhil Bharatiya OBC Mahasabha on Sunday in Vrindavan burned photocopies of pages allegedly carrying "objectionable comments on women and Dalits" in Ramcharitmanas, supporting SP leader Swami Prasad Maurya.
    The protest was held in Vrindavan Yojana sector apparently in solidarity with Maurya, who had on January 22 in a statement said the Hindu epic contained passages discriminatory of women and shudras.

    Qatar replaces Russian company in Lebanon gas exploration

    Lebanon, two international oil giants and state-owned oil and gas company Qatar Energy signed an agreement Sunday that the Qatari firm will join a consortium that will search for gas in the Mediterranean Sea off Lebanon's coast. The deal inked in Beirut brings Qatar into Lebanon's gas exploration market three months after Lebanon and Israel signed a US-mediated maritime border agreement ending a years-long dispute.
    Qatar Energy is replacing a Russian company that withdrew from the Lebanese market in September.

    Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday took potshots at the Centre over renaming Rashtrapati Bhavan's famed Mughal Gardens to 'Amrit Udyan' and said it (name change) was a BJP conspiracy to divert attention from core issues such as price rise and unemployment.
    The iconic Mughal Gardens at Rashtrapati Bhavan will now be known as 'Amrit Udyan', which would open for the public from January 31, an official statement issued on Saturday said.
