    A fire broke out in a market at suburban Kurla in Mumbai on Sunday night and has spread to multiple shops, officials said. Nobody is injured in the incident as per the information available so far.

    TTE arrested for raping woman on moving train

    A travelling ticket examiner has been arrested for allegedly gang-raping a 33-year-old woman along with an accomplice on the Subedarganj Express, a Government Railway Police official said on Sunday. GRP in-charge at the Chandausi railway station K N Singh said the woman submitted a complaint on Saturday alleging that TTE Raju Singh, who she was acquainted with, and another person gang-raped her on the train after offering her a seat in the AC first class coach.

    Youth stabbed to death in Delhi, two minors nabbed

    An 18-year-old youth was allegedly stabbed to death in south Delhi's Maidan Garhi area while resisting an attempt to snatch his mobile phone following which two juveniles were apprehended, police said Sunday. The police received information about a body lying near Radha Krishna Mandir in the Telephone Mohalla at 2.23 pm on Saturday.

    Nepal plane crash: 2 more dead bodies of Indian nationals identified

     Nepal’s health officials on Sunday identified two more bodies of the Indian nationals who died in a plane crash in Pokhara and assured the victims’ relatives that they will be handed over all four bodies on Monday. Nepalese authorities on Tuesday started handing over to family members the bodies of those killed in the January 14 crash of a Yeti Airlines passenger plane with 72 people on board.

    Rahul Gandhi to hoist tricolour in Srinagar to mark end of Bharat Jodo Yatra

    Former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi will hoist the national flag at party headquarters in Srinagar at the culmination of 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' on January 30, with all Pradesh Congress Committee offices following suit in solidarity with the Yatra. Congress General Secretary K C Venugopal said the Bharat Jodo Yatra, which started in Kanyakumari on September 7, will conclude on January 30 in Srinagar after having covered 3,970 km, 12 states and two Union territories.

    Joint Kisan Manch seeks concrete policy for farmers, horticulturists in view of rising cost of input

    The Joint Kisan Manch of various organisations of farmers and horticulturists has urged Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu to take necessary steps to provide relief to the farmers in view of the rising cost of inputs and abolish GST on cartons and materials for packing.

    The organisation wrote a letter to the CM in view of the rising cost of inputs, levying of GST and increasing interference of corporate houses and companies, procuring the products at very low prices.

    Bangladesh asks Russia not to send cargo through ships under US sanctions

    Bangladesh on Sunday urged Russia not to send cargo through ships sanctioned by the United States, emphasising that Dhaka doesn’t want its ties with Washington to be affected. “We told Russia that they can send us cargo through any of their vessels except 69 ships that are under (US) sanction,” Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen told reporters here.

    Outrage over a Quran-burning protest in Sweden produced a second day of protests in Turkey, reflecting tensions between the two countries. Some 250 people gathered outside the Swedish Consulate in Istanbul, where a photo of Danish anti-Islam activist Rasmus Paludan was set on fire.
    Paludan burned Islam's holy book outside the Turkish Embassy in Stockholm on Saturday, sparking protests in Istanbul and Ankara that night.

    Cops in Bihar recover stolen idols of deities within 12 hours of theft

    Four 'ashtadhatu' (made of eight metals) idols of Hindu deities, which were stolen from a temple here a day ago, were recovered within 12 hours of the theft, a police officer said. One person has been arrested in this connection, and the police are on the lookout for four others who were involved in the theft, he said.

    Man who fled Delhi's 5-star hotel without paying Rs 23 lakh bill sent to 2-day custody

    A Delhi court on Sunday remanded a man arrested for allegedly staying at a five-star hotel here for about four months by posing as a functionary of the UAE royal family and fleeing with an outstanding bill of more than Rs 23 lakh in two days' police custody.

    Duty Magistrate Shivangi Vyas sent Mahamed Sharif for custodial interrogation, noting that police had to recover certain articles from his residence in Delhi, which were allegedly stolen by him.

    Boy killed in suspected leopard attack in Mysuru

    Implement law on compensation to accident victims: Delhi HC to Centre

    The Delhi High Court has asked the Centre to ensure within six months the enforcement of legal provisions pertaining to the grant of compensation to victims of road accidents caused by an uninsured vehicle as well as in cases of hit and run. The central government told the court that it has amended the law pertaining to motor vehicles to grant compensation in case of accidents caused by uninsured vehicles but guidelines were yet to be framed.

    Indian-origin man shot dead during armed robbery in US: Report

    A 66-year-old Indian-origin gas station employee was shot dead during an armed robbery in the US city of Philadelphia and police are searching for three men in connection with the murder, according to media reports.
