    India's cumulative Covid Vaccination Coverage has crossed 31 crore, according to a provisional report, the Union health ministry said on Friday. The new phase of universalisation of vaccination started from June 21, and over 60 lakh vaccine doses were administered on Friday, the report stated.

    Satyen Vaidya appointed additional judge in Himachal Pradesh HC

    Satyen Vaidya was appointed as an additional judge of the Himachal Pradesh High Court on Friday. According to a law ministry notification, Vaidya has been appointed as an additional judge of the Himachal Pradesh High Court for a period of two years with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office.

    Additional judges are usually appointed for two years before being elevated as permanent judges.

    As per an official notification, the 11th session of the fifth Chhattisgarh legislative Assembly will begin on July 26 and conclude on July 30.

    • In the week of 4th May, 531 districts of the country were reporting more than 100 cases. In the week of 2nd June, it fell down to 262 districts. Right now only 125 districts in the country are reporting more than 100 cases: Lav Agarwal, Joint Secretary, Health Ministry
    • Recovery rate has increased to 96.7%: Lav Agarwal, Joint Secretary, Health Ministry
    • In last couple of months, first variant of concern was the one announced by UK where it was identified & subsequently we now have 4 of these which WHO has called Alpha, Beta, Gamma & Delta. Delta is the one that was identified in India: Renu Swarup, Secy, Dept of Biotechnology
    • It was Indian scientist who identified it, put it onto global database & because of genomic surveillance done within our country, it also helped globally. Many other countries too identified it on global database. Then it was noted that it was found in many countries: Renu Swarup

    Sensex surges 226 points to end at record high; Nifty tops 15,850

    Equity benchmark Sensex jumped 226 points to end at a fresh lifetime high on Friday, boosted by ICICI Bank, Axis Bank and Infosys amid positive cues from global markets.

    The 30-share BSE index closed 226.04 points or 0.43 per cent higher at record 52,925.04. Similarly, the broader NSE Nifty advanced 69.90 points or 0.44 per cent to 15,860.35.

    Tata Steel was the top gainer in the Sensex pack, rising over 4 per cent, followed by Axis Bank, SBI, ICICI Bank, Bajaj Finserv, L&T and Maruti. On the other hand, Reliance Industries, NTPC, HUL, Titan and Asian Paints were among the laggards.

    Body of 28-year-old man found in canal in UP

    The body of a 28-year-old man bearing stab wounds was found in a canal here on Thursday morning, police said. The victim has been identified as Sabir, Superintendent of Police Ram Badan Singh said.

    The body was spotted in the Datipur canal by local people. As per initial investigation, the victim was with his friends Saudagar and Irfan on Wednesday night, the police said, adding that an FIR has been lodged.

    A probe is underway but no arrests have been made so far, they said.
