New Delhi, August 6: Moved by the reports of Congress President Sonia Gandhi's surgery in the US, over a dozen Telangana Congress MPs have decided to dilute their decision to boycott the Parliament proceedings. Starting Monday, they will attend the sessions whenever there is a requirement of headcount or voting.

“When Soniaji is ill we do not want to jeopardize the party or the Government at this stage. It was the Congress president who decided in favour of Telangana and supported us all long. We will wait till Soniaji returns hale and hearty,” said Nizamabad MP Madhu Yaskhi.

He is among the 11 Congress MPs from Andhra Pradesh who had submitted their resignations to the Speaker last month. The Speaker has not accepted them.

Yakshi said the final call on attending the Parliament would be taken by the seven-member steering committee of the Telengana Congress leaders on Saturday. As for MLAs, since the Andhra assembly is not in session, the question of them taking a different course does not arise.
Meanwhile, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) on Friday took exception to Home Minister P Chidambaram's statement in the Parliament that consensus was essential for settling the Telangana issue.

TRS leader KT Rama Rao said consensus isn't possible as the leaders from coastal and Rayalaseema regions want the state to remain undivided. He said, “The Home Minister exhibited Centre's escapism and inefficiency with regard to creating a new state.”
