A terrifying video that has now gone viral shows a 26-year-old woman throwing her two-and-half-year-old child from the staircase of their house in southeast Delhi's Pul Prahladpur area on January 24.

The matter came to light when the boy's father, Nitin Gupta, lodged a complaint against his wife Sonu and submitted CCTV footage showing her throwing the child, Ashu, down the stairs.

As per the family, Sonu had an argument with Nitin’s parents and began throwing things around in irritation. She then picked up her child, went to the staircase and threw him down. Her in-laws then rushed down the stairs to save the child.

It has been reported she had an eye on her husband’s property and often used to beat her child and mother-in-law.

The child was medically examined at the AIIMS trauma centre on the same day and some some blunt injuries were found on the face, the official said, adding the victim's father owns a cosmetic shop in Sharma Market of Pul Prahladpur area.

The police is now investigating whether the couple were having marital issues over the child, he said.

The officer also said that it is not known yet what the provocation or motive of the mother was to behave like this with her child.

Police is also verifying the authenticity of the video recording and investigating whether these were regular episodes or a one-off incident. Family members are also being interrogated.
