Vande Bharat depicts Indian Railways' giant strides in passenger services | See photos

Vande Bharat Express, also known as Train 18, was launched on February 15 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi amid much fanfare. Designed to run at 160kmph on electric traction between New Delhi and Varanasi, it was billed as India’s first semi high-speed train.

Railways minister Piyush Goyal on Wednesday shared pictures of Vande Bharat Express on his twitter handle saying the "hospitality extended to travellers in Vande Bharat Express is setting new standards."

"Vande Bharat has been the next leap forward for Indian Railways not only in terms of transportation, but also for passenger services.The hospitality extended to travellers in Vande Bharat Express is setting new standards," the Minister said.

Vande Bharat Express, also known as Train 18, was launched on February 15 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi amid much fanfare. Designed to run at 160kmph on electric traction between New Delhi and Varanasi, it was billed as India’s first semi high-speed train.

The 16-coach train, built in 18 months at a cost of Rs 97 crore by the Integral Coach Factory, Chennai, is regarded as a successor to the 30-year-old Shatabdi Express. It's also the first locomotive-less train in the country.
