In a scathing attack on PM Narendra Modi, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday said that the prime minister's 'hugplomacy' with US President Donald Trump failed as 26/11 Mumbai terror attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed is now free.

"Narendrabhai, बात नहीं बनी. Terror mastermind is free. President Trump just delinked Pak military funding from LeT. Hugplomacy fail. More hugs urgently needed.," the Congress vice-president said in a tweet.

This comes a day after Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) chief Hafiz Saeed, who was under house arrest since January for his role in terror activities, was set free by the Pakistan government.

Meanwhile, the US State Department has said that Washington is "deeply concerned" at the release of terror attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed.

Reacting to Washington's move, the Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) said that Hafiz Saeed has no connections with the Mumbai attacks, adding that he is a "peace loving" person against whom India has put "false allegations". The Pakistan-based terror organisation added that the United States tried to put pressure on Pakistan to hold the release of Saeed, but failed to do so.
