PM Modi turns 68; President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, Amit Shah, Rahul Gandhi extend birthday wishes

President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, BJP chief Amit Shah and Congress president Rahul Gandhi were among the first to greet PM Modi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated his 68th birthday on Monday. President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, BJP chief Amit Shah and Congress president Rahul Gandhi were among the first to greet him.

"Birthday greetings to our Prime Minister @narendramodi. Wish him a long life and many years of dedicated service to the people of the country," Kovind tweeted.

Venkaiah Naidu, who is in Malta, called up Modi to wish him on his birthday, the Vice President Secretariat said.

"Warm Birthday wishes to Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. India is making rapid strides under his visionary leadership and taking its rightful place in the comity of nations. May he be blessed with long and healthy life," said Naidu's Twitter handle.

Amit Shah hailed Modi's leadership, saying India under him has become synonymous with development and that he has infused energy into every section of society like never before.

India has a government under Modi, which is committed to the development of the poor, farmers and every section of society, the BJP chief said in a tweet.

He described Modi as a leader who is loved by all and has provided a decisive and visionary leadership to country, as he prayed for a long and healthy life for the prime minister. 

Rahul Gandhi wished good health and happiness to the prime minister on his birthday.

"Happy Birthday to our PM, Narendra Modi ji! Wishing him good health and happiness always," he said on Twitter.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said: "Warm birthday compliments to the dynamic and illustrious Prime Minister. I wish him good health and a long life. May he continue to render for many more years his exceptional services to the nation and guide the country to its glory."

Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman called Modi a man with a vision for "New India". 

Minister of Law and Justice Ravi Shankar Prasad wished Modi to "continue guiding our country on the path of prosperity".

Uttar pradesh Chief Minister Adityanath in his greeting said under Modi India was moving ahead on the path of progress and prosperity and has found a prominent place in international forums. 

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said: " Birthday greetings to PM Modi and I pray for his healthy and long life."

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader, Tejashwi Yadav, tweeted "Wishing a very Warm & Happy birthday to respected PM Sh. @narendramodi ji! May God bless you healthy & long life, success and strength to live up to the expectations of 125 Crore Indians & fulfil the dreams & promises shown and given to the people! #HappyBdayPMModi".West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee greeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his birthday. 

"Birthday greetings to Prime Minister @narendramodi ji," Banerjee, who is currently on 13-day official tour to Europe, tweeted in the morning.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami on Monday greeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his 68th birthday.
 
In his greetings to the prime minister, Palaniswami extended his "warm wishes" to Modi "for a wonderful year ahead. "
 
"On the joyous occasion of your birthday, I take great pleasure in conveying my warm wishes to you for a wonderful year ahead," the chief minister said.
 
"I pray that the almighty may grant you many more years of good health and strength to serve our nation and the people," he said in the message, which was released by the state government.
 
Puducherry Lt Governor Kiran Bedi also greeted the prime minister on his birthday and said "the vision, commitment, intellect and leadership exhibited by you (Modi) have been instrumental in our country emerging as a force to reckon in the comity of nations."
 
She also extended greetings on behalf of the people of the Union Territory.
 
"Schemes like Jan Dhan Yojana, MUDRA, and Ayushman Bharat are path breaking schemes, truly inclusive, to make the poor of India be part of development and prosperity," she said.

Meanwhile, PM Modi will head to his constituency Varanasi on his birthday. Modi will reach Narur village this afternoon where he will interact with children of a primary school, which is aided by a non-profit organisation, Room to Read. 

Later, at the Diesel Locomotive Works (DLW) campus, the prime minister will interact with students of the Kashi Vidyapeeth and the children assisted by them, according to the Prime Minister's Office.
