Medical aspirants can now attempt NEET only three times

The University Grants Commission (UGC) on Tuesday decided that the medical aspirants will now be permitted to attempt National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) only three times.

According to a report in Times of India, the decision has been taken to discourage thousands of students who keep trying their luck at the examination.

The UGC has also put a cap on the maximum age for NEET aspirants.

The minimum age to appear for NEET is 17 years.

The maximum age for general category students has been fixed at 25 years. The age bar for reserved candidates will be 30 years.

Earlier, there was neither any  age bar nor any ceiling on number of attempts  for appearing in NEET.

"This is a good decision. There are some students who keep taking the test, and when they don't make the cut, join a BSc college and keep taking the medical entrance test,"  Dr Pravin Shingare, director at the Maharashtra directorate of medical education and research (DMER) told TOI.
